About the best thing one can say about Sam Varghese is that, were there a law in Australia against impersonating a journalist, he'd be behind bars for life. When he's not bullying college students, he's trying hard to hush up anyone who calls out clear instances of sexist behavior in the community.
I'd commented that Varghese didn't seem to have much to say after accusing Kirrily Robert of "jumping the gun" with her (quite restrained and polite, actually) open letter to Mark Shuttleworth after the video came out and showed that, if anything, things were worse than one would have gathered from Robert's email.
Does Varghese apologize for denouncing Robert's message as "hearsay"? Or even acknowledge that Shuttleworth, in fact, said exactly what Kirrily took issue with, and more besides? Not at all.
Varghese has proof that all this sexism talk is nonsense! And not just proof, but photographic evidence!
"GreyGeek", an Anonymous Coward often quoted as support for his own fantasies by Roy Schestowitz, has supplied Varghese with a photo of the folks who worked on Karmic, and yes, indeed, there are some women in there! Not many; you have to look pretty hard to see them, but they're certainly there. It's certainly not on the level of a place like Apple, where perhaps one out of every four or five developers is a woman.
Varghese takes this photo as solid evidence that the people who claim there are problems are simply imagining them, or worse, making them up just to stir up trouble. He evidently doesn't possess the wit to understand that Carla Schroder wasn't being literal when she wrote a blog entry titled, "Mark Shuttleworth's Community Has No Women". He then goes on to make the nauseatingly avuncular (and not quite literate) observation, "what's more they do look quite content with their lot"!
That's a pretty amazing display of mind-reading on Varghese's part. I wonder whether he's likewise able to psychically discern that the women in that photo are "quite content" with Shuttleworth's remarks.
Seems like Mr. Varghese must also be a fan of "happy endings".
[UPDATE: Now that Matt Zimmerman had the temerity to respond to Varghese by pointing out that Varghese hadn't the slightest idea what he was talking about, Varghese is insisting that mdz should leave his job as CTO of Canonical, since "How do you continue to work for someone in a senior position when you have publicly sided with another person who has called your boss sexist?" Varghese still can't manage to get his facts straight: for starts Robert did not call Mark Shuttleworth sexist. Nor did mdz. This is simply another one of Varghese's dopey attempt to obfuscate the actual issue and "punish" mdz. Too bad it only makes Varghese look like even more thin-skinned and petty.]
